In 2017, just three weeks after the birth of our f In 2017, just three weeks after the birth of our first baby and under the watchful eye of our German Shepherd, Hilo, we planted the vineyard that would become known as Watchdog Winery. Hilo is the foundation of our brand, and represents loyalty, protection and the connection between land and family. Hilo came into our lives in 2013, on the North Dakota leg of our cross country move from Virginia to Montana. Hilo was Ben’s first dog and it was love at first sight. Since then, she welcomed two (human) siblings into the family and the three of them became inseparable. Hilo could be found either sleeping in the hallway between the girls’ rooms or, when they insisted on bunkbeds, she would sleep in the room with them. Hilo was our family’s watchful guardian until November of 2025. We are so grateful for our time with her. In June of 2026, we will be welcoming a new puppy to the family to continue on Hilo’s legacy.
Just in time for Spring, our Glacial Melon wine is Just in time for Spring, our Glacial Melon wine is hitting the shelves (of our website)! This wine is a blend of Crenshaw melon, from Dixon melons, and our Riesling, made from Walla Walla grapes. While these grapes aren't grown on our property, the soils of Dixon and Walla Walla are structurally quite similar as they have both been affected by the same ancient glacial floods. We have paired the Glacial Melon wine with cucumber tonic, prosecco, and a dash of club soda to create a refreshing, well-balanced spritzer to celebrate Springs arrival.
